The Plateau Municipal Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (PLAMWASSA) has successfully concluded a capacity-building training workshop for Water Consumer Associations and Grievance Redress Committees, alongside contractors, on Environmental and Social Guidelines as well as the Operation and Maintenance of Water Schemes in Jos East Local Government Area.
The training, organized by PLAMWASSA and sponsored by the Plateau State Government, underscores the commitment of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang’s administration to provide potable drinking water to the people of Plateau State. Participants at the workshop were drawn from Fusa, Fobur and Angware communities of Jos East Local Government Area.
Delivering the welcome address, Engr. Aaron Goyit commended the participants for their willingness to attend the training, describing their presence as a show of commitment to the success of the water scheme.
Presenting a goodwill message on behalf of the Deputy Speaker, Plateau State House of Assembly, the Chief of Staff, Mr. Moses Ishaya Azi, praised Governor Mutfwang for fulfilling his promise of extending developmental projects to rural communities.
“This initiative is a clear demonstration that the present administration is committed to inclusive governance. The people of Jos East are grateful to His Excellency for ensuring that we are not left out in the dividends of democracy,” Azi stated.
Declaring the training open, the General Manager of PLAMWASSA, represented by the Assistant General Manager, Technical, Engr. Fyaklek Markus, charged participants to take ownership of the scheme for its sustainability.
“This program is not just for today but for your children and generations to come. That is why we are urging you to key into it, protect it, and ensure it works for your communities. The government has played its part, it is now left for you to embrace and sustain it,” Markus emphasized.
During the technical sessions, participants were exposed to presentations that highlighted environmental and social guidelines, operational frameworks, and the crucial roles of Water Consumer Associations and Grievance Redress Committees in ensuring sustainability of the water schemes. The workshop concluded with a renewed sense of commitment among stakeholders to support the effective management of water projects for improved service delivery in Jos East.
